About Lindsey Frein

This is me

I'm a UX Designer constantly seeking opportunities to grow and challenge myself in the industry. I pursue projects that allow me to connect with others and do good in the world.

Inspired by the wild outdoors and a growth mindset, I’m constantly learning and evolving so that I can show up authentically with work that inspires.

My Work

I'm currently freelancing and consulting, focusing on UX/UI Design in fields that align with my values. My most recent work is with the local climbing organization, New River Alliance of Climbers, to rebrand and rebuild their website. Specifically, we've created a bolt safety report form that provides users with unprecedented access to education and information, increasing the number of reports, preventing duplicates, and enabling community access to updates.

Before my career shift, I spent the last decade working in various corners of the service industry, from schmoozing with sommeliers in New England oyster bars to sizing newbie hikers for their first backpack. Most often, you could find me mixing up a tasty drink (I recommend a Paper Plane) at a local cocktail bar. Bartending taught me a lifetime of lessons about human connection, diversity, and empathy, which nourish my unique perspective on people and human-centered design.

My Story

I'm from the smallest state, but I've always had big dreams. I grew up in lil Rhody, and I always knew I wanted to travel and squeeze everything I could out of life. I first left home for the University of Tampa, where I studied global history for two years, but although I was getting great grades, I felt disconnected from the stories I was learning to tell. So I chose adventure rather than academia and lived on the road in a van from 2019-2023. I learned unforgettable life lessons and grew as a young woman in ways I don't believe a school could teach. I still draw deep creative inspiration and wisdom from the natural wonders I was able to live amongst at this time.

By 2023, I was ready to shift my focus from learning to doing, so I let country roads take me home to a small town in Appalachia. Now, based out of Fayetteville, WV, I'm fostering community and drawing on my empathy to put down roots and create an even deeper imprint. I graduated from Career Foundry's UX Bootcamp in June 2025, ready to challenge myself and grow both as a designer and as an individual.

Now I'm freelancing as a UX/UI Designer, drawing on my experiences, complex empathetic connections, and inspiration from the natural world to create meaningful designs that are authentic to me.

Other things I love:

Juicy surf, the smell of sage, fresh tomatoes, adventure climbing, frothy powder, and long days spent in the sun with friends.
